Preschool in Decatur

Preschool in Decatur, Georgia

As with the infant and toddler program, Smarties Academy uses the Creative Curriculum, which is a flexible, research-based, early childhood education program. This curriculum has weekly themes where children explore various concepts and ideas and gradually repeat them over the course of the month. Our preschool program builds further upon concepts introduced in infancy by introducing activities to stimulate development.

Our full Spanish immersion program promotes bilingualism and multi-cultural understanding. Spanish is used throughout the day’s activities at Smarties Academy for ages 6 weeks to 4 years so children learn the foreign language naturally. Research shows full foreign language immersion at an early age, develops a child’s creative and cognitive skills. Before school, after-school and on weekends children will have plenty of time to learn English or your family’s native language. As a result, your child will become fluent in both Spanish and English!

Preschool with an emphasis on building skills with support

In the preschool program, children are ready for more experiences in math and literacy. Classrooms are equipped with a wide array of materials to refine motor development, which is necessary in the proper development of the hand and arm muscles that will later facilitate writing. Classrooms are interactive and have a variety or workstations to encourage the development of different types of skills and promote a variety of leaning approaches. Skills necessary to prepare children for writing, such as punching, sewing, threading, and cutting are practiced.

Children are increasingly aware of their environment, and our teachers will work with them on reinforcing and supporting toilet training, personal hygiene (children clean their teeth after lunch), socialization, self-help, and following directions.
